Smuggle Truck: Horrible Joke or Interactive Satire?

“Smuggle Truck”, a new game that a Boston-area studio is planning to release on Apple Inc.’s iPhone and iPad, as well as the Internet, caused a wide spread discussion in the web.

According to Eva Millona, executive director of the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition, “It’s a tasteless and horrible joke.”“Tasteless Satire on Immigration Issue”, said Ed Oswald, (Pcworld.com),

“I do think the line needs to be drawn on what is satire and what is in bad taste-and Smuggle Truck is just a step too far”.

“This game mocks the human tragedy that represents undocumented migration. Dying at the border is not a game,” said Jorge-Mario Cabrera, spokesman for Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles. “Leaving your land and your family behind in search of a better life is not a game.”

The game’s creator, Alex Schwartz, calls the game an “interactive satire”. The game was inspired by the frustration that friends of friends felt trying to legally immigrate to the U.S., Schwartz said on the game’s website.

I wonder, what did all those people who now criticize Smuggle Truck say about South Park, Family Gay etc…?

And what do you think about this game?
